Highway 12 joins Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Parks. It follows a very scenic route through an area called Escalante, a huge swath of land that gained added protection during the final days of the Clinton administration. It's not uncommon for Presidents at the end of their final term to create new reserves and this one is huge.
