Just inside the pylons is the courtyard of Ramses II. When Luxor Temple
was first excavated an entire village had been built on top of it. The
Egyptian government at the time was convinced to move everyone off the
site with an exception made to a 13th century mosque that still stands
on the site today.
On the left you can see the mosque. It's been recently renovated and is
still in use today though it now sits 8m above ground level.
