Luxor Temple

Just inside the pylons is the courtyard of Ramses II. When Luxor Temple was first excavated an entire village had been built on top of it. The Egyptian government at the time was convinced to move everyone off the site with an exception made to a 13th century mosque that still stands on the site today.

On the left you can see the mosque. It's been recently renovated and is still in use today though it now sits 8m above ground level.
