Aswan: High Dam

Two thirds of the usable land in Nubia was covered by the rising waters. This necessitated the relocation of many ancient temples. We would see on of them, Abu Simbel, the next day.
The Aswan High Dam isn't the only Dam on the Nile, the British had built a smaller Dam (completed in 1902) which was not large enough to control the Nile's flooding.
