An early flight delivered us to Aswan. The Aswan High Dam is the first
stop on any tour of this area. Designed, built and funded by the
Soviets, this Dam was finished in 1970 and first reached capacity in
1976. In addition to controlling the flooding of the Nile, it provides
a large quantity of electricity to Egypt.
Here we see the wall of the dam, looking down stream. The Dam is actually
curved in shape, though not as much as this panoramic photo would suggest.
