Coming down the staircase is much faster and more direct. Our guide
(pictured here) explained that upward stairways in temples always
would have many turns in them but the stairways downward would be
straight. This is supposed to mimic the flight of the falcon, who uses
thermal winds to rise into the air in a winding motion but will
descend directly and with great speed as they hunt.
