Abydos

Abydos was a very important temple for the Ancient Egyptians. This is where the head of Osiris was buried when his brother Seth defeated and killed him in battle. This was also the place where Osiris' mummification and resurrection were performed by Anubus and Isis.

This temple was built in the reign of Seti I and extended by Ramses II.

The current temple entrance was once preceded by two courtyards. The first one was bounded by pylons that have now fallen into ruin.
