Again according to our guide, King Hassan II had heard Casablanca described as a city of no soul. Certainly it didn't have the historic grandeur of the older cities and much of it isn't pretty to look upon. The Kings solution was to give the city a soul in the form of the grand mosque whose minaret you see here.
