This is Bab en Naoura a somewhat less impressive structure. Behind the
gate are Eucalyptus trees. Introduced by the French, these Australian
natives dominate the country and have now been adopted into local
culture as fuel for
Hammams,
the public baths so integral to Islamic life. Traditionally the
aromatic Olive wood was burned to heat bath water but nowadays in Morocco
Eucalyptus is also used and is also valued for its fragrance.
