Moulay Idriss II
who, through his father
Moulay Idriss I,
was apparently descended from
Fatima,
the daughter of the
prophet Muhammad.
These barriers were erected to prevent mounted horsemen from riding in
this area. Originally no non-Muslim was allowed past this point.
