Fes el Bali: Wandering the streets

This brace is roughly at head height. We were now entering the district of the city that housed the tomb of Fes' founder Moulay Idriss II who, through his father Moulay Idriss I, was apparently descended from Fatima, the daughter of the prophet Muhammad. These barriers were erected to prevent mounted horsemen from riding in this area. Originally no non-Muslim was allowed past this point.
