Here we can see the three main expressions of Medieval Arabic art. On
the top we see carved plaster. In the centre is the ornamental
calligraphy that are invariably derived from verses of the
Koran. At the bottom
we see the mosaics. Since traditional Islam forbids the depiction of
living beings (though that has since been relaxed to allow floral
designs), these are the three main kinds of art we would see on our
journey.
