Hiroshima City 広島市: Hiroshima Peace Park 平和公園

The bridge on which I stood to take this photo was the original target of the bomb. Easily visible from the air, this uniquely 'T' shaped bridge was a convenient landmark at which to aim the weapon. Unbelievably, the bridge survived for another 35 years before being replaced in 1983.

As I looked up from my camera after taking a photo, as kindly old man was staring at me. Then in English he asked me if I would like to have him give me a tour. He wasn't wearing one of the official green jackets of the volunteers and explained himself as a freelance guide. Of course I accepted.
