Marugame is apparently the hand-made Uchiwa 団扇 (one form of the traditional Japanese fan) capital of Japan with over 90% of the country's output crafted here. A small uchiwa demonstration area and store adjoined the castle. Here we see the split bamboo before the paper coating is applied.
