Longing for simpler travel I drove to the town of Marugame 丸亀 close by. Like Takamatsu (and many cities in Japan), they have a castle on a hill surrounded by a moat. This one, however, was a survivor and was still made of its original wood. There are only 12 of these orginal wooden castles left in Japan.
