Tokyo 東京: Akihabara 秋葉原

One of the places I wanted to see before I left Japan was the newly opened Tokyo Anime Centre. Japanese animation is slowly conquering the world and Tokyo is now honouring it as an export of which to be proud. Anime has a strange reputation in Japan. It's often seen as only for extreme geeks (otaku) and is frowned upon by many. However, recently it seems to be gaining some mainstream respect, probably because of its popularity overseas.
