Chetro Ketl: Large Kiva

The largest Kiva in Chetro Ketl. Two floor vaults can be seen with a firebox in the middle. Unique to Chaco's Kiva's are circular seating benches around the walls.

The four circilar pits seated the beams for the roof that originally covered the structure. In the northeast seating pit, under four sandstone disks and two alternating layers of adobe and lignite, a sueded leather bag containing powdered turquoise was discovered during excavation.
