After about an hour of driving. I could see that it was going to rain soon. Certainly not good driving weather on a dirt road. I'd only seen two cars passing the other way, and they were both huge four wheel drives. I had also passed some forks in the road that weren't on my map. After peering at 25 year old wooden road signs with nothing but vague lines and Japanese characters etched into them, I was reduced to guessing which way to go.
