Kouchi-ken 高知県: Ashizuri Cape 足摺岬

All good capes end in with a lighthouse. "Ashizuri", means to stamp one's foot. Legend has it that a monk stamped his food in anguish when one of his disciples set forth in a boat to find Fudaraku 補佗落, the realm of Kannon 観音 (the Bodhisattva of Mercy). Naturally the disciple was never to return.

Hundreds of years afterward, it became a famous place for suicides, the most notable of which was a geisha who danced off the cliffs to her death on the rocks below.
